Gowanus is one of the most charming neighborhoods in Brooklyn and our home is one one of the quietest blocks with wonderful parks nearby, and the oft written about shopping boutiques and restaurants of Smith and Court Streets just minutes from the front door. Carroll Park with it's popular children's play area is three blocks away. We have two separate rooms available with private bath in a modern, renovated 1864 carriage house - it's a single family home located on a super quiet, tree-lined block. At night it's rare to hear anything and you'll wake up to the sound of birds singing in the tree branches in the front garden. For more info about Gowanus - (URL HIDDEN) It's a quick one and a half blocks to trendy Smith Street's restaurant row, bars and shops and 5 minutes walk to the F train, ten to the R train. Soho is 15 minutes away by F-train. It's a lovely 25 minute walk through Cobble Hill and historic Brooklyn Heights to the Brooklyn Bridge or east through Park Slope to Prospect Park. Our home is in a safe, diverse neighborhood with young families, singles and retirees who gather on their stoops for a chat. With all of the concerns about the health effects of wireless radiation on living organisms, a special thing about our home is that it has been evaluated and certified by a Bau Biologist as safe for those who may be sensitive to electromagnetic fields and wireless radiation as well as it is mold-free and toxin free (we do have a dog). We do not have any devices emitting wifi, bluetooth, smart meter or cordless phone radiation. If you would benefit from a less toxic environment for health reasons, our home can be a safe haven as you travel to NYC. We use chemical free soaps for our laundry, cleaners for the household surfaces and all food and toiletries are organic. Feel free to contact us with your specific needs or questions. The two rooms are adjacent one another on the second floor and one or both are available depending upon your needs. Each room has a twin bunk bed and the larger room has it's own seating area, and a hard-wired computer with wired printer. The smaller room is sized mainly for sleeping. Both rooms have air conditioning and the house has steam heat in the winter. The set up is perfect for friends, solo travelers or couples who, ahem, like a bit of quiet at night away from a snoring partner. Families with children will enjoy the playful space. We're very easy going, have a clean and creative home and our interests are eclectic. We love Brooklyn and NYC and are happy to help you with suggestions for visiting some of the locals-only sights. There is surprisingly easy street parking on our block for those of you driving in. Also available: internet, cable and a lovable terrier mutt, Woofer and her friend, Sniffer. Woofer is very good with kids and people of all sizes. Sniffer is a golden retriever dachshund mix with incredibly soft fur and a sweet face. For families traveling with kids - there is no charge for children who sleep with you or in a pack-n-play. If they need a bed of their own, please include them in your guest count. The rooms sleep 4, total.
You have free run of the house, living room and kitchen during your stay. The downstairs 1/2 bathroom is exclusively yours and you can unpack your stuff and make yourself at home there. At the moment, we have one shared bath for a shower and a much lower price that reflects this. We've had many guests visit this way and it really does work out fine. Hopefully by summer we'll have our guest bath finished.
We love answering questions, helping to plan outings and give advice. We're also happy to give you space and have guests come and go on their own - we chat and say 'hi' as well as happily go about our business while you come and go. We've had guests cook their own meals and share meals with us. There are amazing restaurants just a couple of blocks away and a Whole Foods 10 minutes on foot. Whatever works for you is just fine with us.
We've lived in the neighborhood since the 1990's and love the friendly stoop culture, amazing restaurants and convenient and quick subway ride to the city.
The 'F' train is 3.5 blocks from our house so it doesn't get much better. We also have plentiful cabs in the area if you prefer. It's a lovely walk to the Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park and we are conveniently located between Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. Subway stations in NYC now have WiFi in them but so far the trains do not. Some newer buses do.
